Strong Inside Lauded in Big 10 Country

November 5, 2014

elizabuckyGreat column today on Strong Inside by Doug Moe of the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison, Wisconsin. This one is very meaningful to me — I was born in Madison, my parents grew up there and attended the University of Wisconsin, and my grandparents continued to live there long after our family moved to the East Coast. Doug includes an anecdote that I once considered my stuffed Bucky Badger to be my little brother — a love for Bucky I have passed along to our own kids in Tennessee!

  • “In a magnificently reported, nuanced
but raw account of basketball and racism in the South during the 1960s, Andrew Maraniss tells the story of Perry Wallace’s struggle, loneliness, perseverance and eventual self-realization. A rare story about physical and intellectual courage that is both shocking and triumphant. ”

Bob Woodward, Washington Post associate editor and author
