The great Harry Belafonte visited the Vanderbilt campus to take part in a discussion commemorating the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act and received a copy of Strong Inside. The longtime advocate for social justice has visited Nashville frequently over the years, and was among the well-known entertainers who would visit with students at Pearl High School, TSU and Fisk in the 1950s and 1960s when their tours brought them through town.

I’ve waited 44 years for this book. I played major college hoops in those same years. Perry and Godrey’s stories and the variations there on are the most important stories of my life. I was in a conference to the north and I studied every Vandy box score and wondered.
Andrew, I’m sure you have been astounded by the response to your achievement. Thank you, thank you, thank you
