Perry Wallace returned home to Nashville on Tuesday to be honored by the Metro Council. Wallace was presented a resolution signed by the entire Council in recognition of his groundbreaking achievements as an athlete, scholar and attorney. It was a special moment at City Hall as Wallace applauded the Councilmembers for the gains Nashville has made in recent years, and in turn the councilmembers gave Wallace a standing ovation in honor of his life of achievement. Wallace was greeted by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and Chief of Police Steve Anderson prior to the Council session. Council members Edith Langster and Tim Garrett led the proceedings, and members Ronnie Steine and Charlie Tygard, both Vanderbilt alums, read the proclamation aloud. It was an especially touching scene, considering Wallace had grown up in the segregated Nashville of the 1950s and 60s. Read the resolution here.
