Offenburger.com Review

January 14, 2015

Chuck-Offenburger-mugshotChuck Offenburger attended Vanderbilt with Perry Wallace before embarking on a long and successful career as a columnist in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2014, he was inducted into the Vanderbilt Student Media Hall of Fame, recognizing his accomplishments as editor of the Vanderbilt student newspaper, the Hustler, and his professional journalism career. As a journalist and classmate of Wallace’s, Offenburger’s informed opinion of Strong Inside is meaningful to me, and I was thrilled with the review he posted to his blog earlier this week (“about the finest reporting job I’ve read on any topic in years,” he writes). Check it out here.

  • “In a magnificently reported, nuanced
but raw account of basketball and racism in the South during the 1960s, Andrew Maraniss tells the story of Perry Wallace’s struggle, loneliness, perseverance and eventual self-realization. A rare story about physical and intellectual courage that is both shocking and triumphant. ”

Bob Woodward, Washington Post associate editor and author
