The love was palpable when Perry Wallace returned to his old Pearl High School building (now MLK Magnet) on Thursday. Wallace toured the Pearl High archives, met with a journalism class and the boys’ basketball team, and then spoke to a gymnasium packed with the school’s 1,200 students (as well as dozens of Pearl High alumni). Nashville institution Rudy Kalis of WSMV-Ch. 4 was on hand to document Wallace’s return to the school where he was valedictorian of the Class of 1966 and co-captain of that year’s undefeated state champion basketball team. Here’s Rudy’s report.
