Tip-Off at the Southern Festival of Books

October 11, 2014

pizzaNashville’s fantastic Southern Festival of Books is considered one of the top book fairs in the country, so it was a big thrill to speak publicly for the first time about Strong Inside at the Southern Festival yesterday. Historian Linda Wynn moderated a discussion with me and Clay Risen of the New York Times, a session recorded by C-SPAN’s Book-TV. One of the many thrills of the day was the opportunity to give a free advance copy of the book to Grace of the Crankees Pizzeria food truck! The festival runs through Sunday – if you’re in Nashville, check out the schedule of amazing authors and support books!

  • “In a magnificently reported, nuanced
but raw account of basketball and racism in the South during the 1960s, Andrew Maraniss tells the story of Perry Wallace’s struggle, loneliness, perseverance and eventual self-realization. A rare story about physical and intellectual courage that is both shocking and triumphant. ”

Bob Woodward, Washington Post associate editor and author
